An Overview of some Image Restoration and Combination Methods

Richard N. Hook

Abstract:

In the last few years there have been many image restoration and related techniques applied to optical and near IR imaging from HST and ground-based images. The ST-ECF, largely under the guidance of Leon Lucy, has worked in this area and several new algorithms have been implemented and made available. The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of this work so that confusion can be avoided and the relative merits and applicability of different methods clarified. A substantial section on the combination of dithered images is included as it is closely related and of importance in the HST community.

This article is very biased towards software developed at the ST-ECF and does not attempt to be comprehensive.
