The calibrations are needed to establish a number of parameters that will be needed to reduce polarimetric observations. Several of these will need to be added to the pipeline data base. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Part 2. The instrumental polarization, flat-field corrections, and throughput of the polarimeter will be measured by observing the polarimetric and photometric standard. Observations with the polarimeter will be taken at two roll angles separated by 45 degrees. Part 3. The angles of the Wollastons and waveplates will be measured in celestial coordinates by observing polarized standard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Description of special scheduling requirements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. Polarimetric observations need to be taken as a single sequence of observations. Changes in background, position angle of the spacecraft, and other variables can all adversely affect the results. This test is stray light sensitive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Many of the datas reductions will be performed at the ST ScI. Some reductions, however, will be performed at the University of Arizona. This program is a calibration, so the resulting data will need to be added to the PODPS pipeline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
